Meh
I might be looking in all the wrong places for a job. But, honestly, how does one find it? I tried talking to some recruiters and they keep sending IT jobs in my direction. They’re all software development and database administrator jobs. I say that I want to work on WANs and whatnot but haven’t been able to find someone that understands what I’m really looking for. Most people do not understand that Telecommunications is not a part of IT. It has gotten to the point that I might take anything good that comes my way. Even those damn Insurance sales jobs are starting to sound good.
I found another bonus for my current job: 200 hours of Paid Time Off that I have been accumulating since last year. I didn’t even know that was part of my benefits package. It makes my job worth a little more money and that makes it even harder to find an entry level job of my field that can compete on the same wage level. My father has been looking for telecom jobs while searching work for himself. In a week he’s gone through about 1,000 listings and hasn’t found anything remotely close. I do have a backup plan and I probably will start the initial execution of it this Fall but I will continue to keep searching for something in telecom. Probably should have never gave up my job at a phone company back in Lansing.
